London Open House
September 23 @ 12:30 am - 4:30 pm
Kingswood House will again be participating in the London Open House event, and the Friends will be on hand with an exhibition of historic photos and a wealth of information on the history of this interesting building, and its former inhabitants.
From “Mr Bovril” himself to the stenographer of a Chicago meat-packing plant (in whose honour an annual festival is still held in Nebraska), the house has been home and workplace to many, including the chiefs of two multinational food businesses, the architects of ingenious tax-avoidance schemes, many Canadian soldiers wounded in the First World War and, less famously, Eldred Gardiner.
Come and (perhaps) find out who solved the mystery of the 29 spoons, why one owner didn’t want a yacht, and what links both to the Blaisdell Pencil company…
Entry is free, and the Beckenham Concert Band will be playing between 1.30 and 2.45pm
Cream teas will be for sale from 1pm to 3.30pm.
